INTRODUCTION The Tools Special Session of the Brazilian Symposium on Computer Networks (http://www.dcc.ufmg.br/~sbrc) is an initiative that aims to present computer networks tools developed by Brazilian universities and research centers. The main goal is to provide a forum for the exchange of experiences and solutions on developing software for the diverses aspects of computer networks and distributed systems. The Tools Special Session is part of the SBRC and its first edition took place in Florianópolis, SC during the SBRC 2001. This year, the Tools Special Sessions will occur in Natal, together with the SBRC 2003. PRESENTATION SESSIONS In this edition of the Tools Special Session, the selected tools will be presented in two different forms: in technical sessions and in demonstration sessions. In the technical sessions, each speaker will have 20 minutes to present and demonstrate his/her tool using audiovisual equipments and the tool hardware and software platforms. The demonstration sessions, on their turn, are intended to compliment the presentation in the technical sessions, where the authors will be able to demonstrate the tools in a more informal way on a predefined schedule. TOPICS OF INTEREST Authors of software are invited to submit tools related to the following non exhaustive list of topics: - Protocols and distributed systems specification, verification, implementation and test
- High-speed networks
- Internet
- Protocols, services and applications
- Quality of Service (QoS)
- Telecommunications and computer networks management
- Security
- Mobile computing
- Mobile agents
- Wireless communication
- Middleware
- Multimedia distributed systems
- Real-time distributed systems
- Fault tolerance
- Performance Analysis
- Distributed algorithms
- Interoperable systems
TOOLS SUBMISSION The tools submission process are Web-based and managed through the URL http://www.inf.ufrgs.br/ferramentasSBRC2003. Authors must provide enough information in order to allow the program committee to evaluate the tools and verify if such tools are adequate to the SBRC and can be demonstrated. Among the information required, authors must inform a URL where the tool can be downloaded and another URL that provides the tool documentation. Besides, each author is required to submit a short paper (up to 8 pages) to be published in the SBRC proceedings. The paper formatting is the same applied to the standard SBRC papers. The evaluation process will take into account the tool quality and relevance, its documentation and the submitted paper. Further information about the submission process can be obtained through the e-mail ferramentasSBRC2002@inf.ufrgs.br. PROGRAM COMMITTEE- Lisandro Zambenedetti Granville - UFRGS (chair)
